What is resilience? Resilience is the strength to overcome challenges and setbacks. Whether this is coming back from being a goal down, or having to deal with more difficult life events. Learning to deal with defeat and use it as a motivator is key to success. Defeat is difficult for people who havn't had to lose and learn how to bounce back as they havn't practiced breaking barriers. Those who have had to fight for success through a bumpy ride, overcoming challenges, not only have more appreciation when they succeed but they also learn coping strategies. So try not to let defeat define you but as a mechanism for growth. By experiencing lows, you can really appreciate highs. So by overcoming challenges, you build resilience but how else can you do so? Build your confidence in your abilities. Recognize your strengths and what you are good at. Becoming more confident in yourself will help you be confident in your ability to deal with a crisis.
Build a strong and positive social network. If you are part of a team with strong minded individuals, you are fortunate to have role models. Take time to be around people who you know are resilient and positive and make you feel good. Who makes you the best you can be? Embrace change and enjoy challenges. By learning how to adapt to different situations, will help you better deal with a crisis. Feel confident in that you are capable of adapting. Start by reflecting in all the changes you have had to adapt to, whether it is moving house, teams, moving up an age group, changing schools, going to high school etc. be proud of what you have accomplished and all changes you have embraced.
